A bit about who we are…

Our Start.

Nottingham Focus On Wellbeing (NFOW) was founded in 2013 from the remnants of NHS mental health social inclusion and occupational therapy services. Abandoned service users and redundant NHS staff from the decommissioned services came together with a well-established voluntary sector wellbeing group and NFOW was born.

Our Aims.

NFOW aims to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of service users experiencing problems with their mental health by tackling the isolation, loneliness, discrimination & the stigma of mental illness. We offer opportunities for social engagement and learning, promote the path of recovery, and support the move toward a more positive future for the people who access our service

Our Team.

We are a peer led organisation and volunteers are a key part of everything we do.

The committee oversees all the provisions that NFOW offers & is open to all service users to join.

Please get in touch with us if you would like to get involved.

Our Activities.

We run several groups from our base at Denton Green.

These include a weekly Arts & Crafts Group, IT Group, 'Tea ‘n’ Tech Group, a six week rolling Wellness & Recovery Planning Group, a Peer Support Mindful & Wellness Group, drop-in sessions and most recently a Women’s Wellbeing Group.

The project may also be able to offer support & transport for service users who struggle to leave their own homes to attend our services.

See more on our Groups/Activities Page.

Our Collaborations.

We work with Nottingham City Council Welfare Rights, hosting weekly (by appointment) sessions & Disability Support. Prioviding additional specialist assistance with more complex disability related benefit applications, including support with appeals and tribunals.

In addition we work in partnership with The Trussell Trust and are authorised to issue foodbank vouchers to our service users.

Social Prescribers work with us to promote our project to patients that could benefit from our services.

Our Other Services.

Service users also have access to our independent mental health advocacy service and subject to availability, one to one person centred counselling from a BACP registered counsellor.

Our services are not rationed and, as we are well aware of the fluctuating nature of mental illness, service users will not be penalised for non-engagement should they feel unable to attend on occasion.

We accept referrals from NHS Adult Mental Health Services, GP practices, local community groups and self-referrals
